Space Mail

Space Mail is a 2D RPG game with a sci-fi comedy theme, inspired by and in homage to various comedy shows such as Futurama and the Jetsons.

You are a rookie at the FSPS (federal space postal service) who is learning how to do their job. Your goal is to climb the FSPS leaderboards by packing, traveling, and delivering packages in a series of mini-games to become the best space mail delivery driver of all time, while also tending to rather comedic worlds and characters. Once you pass every NPC on the leaderboard, you win the game and are free to continue playing however you’d like.

The latest version of the game is publicly available through the link bellow:

  • For this game I majorly committed myself to writing for the script, story, and dialogue. I took time to make sure each planet and their inhabitants had as much unique charm and comedy as I could think of - each with their own unique personalities or quirks.

When it was mentioned by the producer that we would have to re-use assets for lesser NPCs in smaller cutscenes, I saw this as an opportunity to apply myself and more of my skills to improve the product on both a visual and narrative level.

After speaking with the producer on the matter to ensure I was not wasting time or resources, I created a set of art assets in Photoshop for these NPCs as well as unique dialogue to set them apart from their more story crucial counterparts.

  • After my previous work on the new NPC art assets, I started to apply myself wherever I thought help was needed.

I assisted in marketing through helping to design the Itch.io page, as well as a design document for additional content. I also designed the concept for the promotional poster before sending it to the art team.

I also assisted in programming, specifically with tweaks to the mini-games post-playtesting. Overall I was gong around and checking in with all of the various teams to see where could be of any help or contribution.

  • Ultimately Space Mail taught me how important it is to truly apply yourself wherever you may be useful to a project - as well as the importance of communication and time management.

I had a blast creating this game with my peers, and I don’t think it would have been nearly as enjoyable of a process or product without this level of commitment and collaboration we all had.

Here is a trailer showcasing the gameplay.

As well as a few cutscenes showcasing character interactions I wrote.

I also had a hand in contacting Voice Actors for cutscenes later on -
- which you can see in the second cutscene.

Here are some screenshots of the dialogue character background, and narrative I wrote - as well as the Writer’s document:
